Lost Hearts (SHORT VERSION)

Pair of phantoms haunts Aswarby Hall.
The removal of hearts they recall.
They both would, they both can,
Undo Abney’s vile plan.

Arachnophobia Grammaton

Arachnophobia Grammaton

Many fine writers have a dread of spiders.
Tolkien here comes to mind – plus M.R. James.
The Stoic viewpoint rarely makes fine writers—
For all the inner motions that it tames
Are helps to human literary aims:
They color simple tales and make them full.
Arachnophobes aren’t simply playing games:
When they dish out emotion, it ain’t bull.
Alas, no fear of spiders fills my skull!
I actually admire those little guys
And gals. My attitude has made me dull
And probably has failed to make me wise.
In this, I’m pretty sure, I’m not unique.
Halloween’s coming, though. I’ll give a shriek.

Decapitator

Vlad the Decapitator gives out heads
To empty-headed kids on Halloween.
He shouldn’t have discarded all his meds.
Vlad the Decapitator gives out heads
To trouble trick-or-treaters. In their beds
They will not soundly sleep. Why intervene?
Vlad the Decapitator gives out heads
To empty-headed kids on Halloween.

Sleep in the Churchyard

Sleep in the Churchyard

The empty conversation of the dead:
Sleep in the churchyard, lad; you’ll get your fill
Of vain recriminations not quite said.
The empty conversation of the dead?
By such gray subtleties you will be led
Beyond the borders of your lonely will.
The empty conversation of the dead:
Sleep in the churchyard, lad; you’ll get your fill!

No-Wait Service

No-Wait Service

Lad breathed his sense of beauty to the night.
The succubus was not long in appearing—
And, flexible, that demon looked just right.
Lad breathed his sense of beauty to the night—
And something heard. That somethings was a sight
And all its affectations were endearing.
Lad breathed his sense of beauty to the night.
The succubus was not long in appearing.

Under a Lonely Moon

Under a Lonely Moon

You have changed. Fit companions you lack
As you lope to your next fierce attack.
Rend and slay – and eat hearty.
You’re the life of no party—
For the lone wolf can’t run with the pack.
