Before the Fall
Before the Fall
When empires fall, they don’t know that they’re falling.
They stumble on, imperious but blind,
Until their blunders rest past all recalling.
When empires fall, they don’t know that they’re falling.
They think they’re conquering when they’re just stalling.
It’s a flaw in the empire-building mind.
When empires fall, they don’t know that they’re falling.
They stumble on, imperious and blind.
