Happy Departure of the Warrior

The Happy Departure of the Warrior
“From West Point’s hallowed grounds we’re now erasing
Robert E. Lee. Rebel: get used to that!”
It’s a report that I for one am facing
with equanimity. It’s now old hat,
for one thing, all this boastful cancellation.
It’s been dumped on our weary heads for years.
What hero of the past has held his station?
Why shoud this latest instance call forth tears?
Furthermore, is it really now uplifting
to be included on the grounds you name?
What gift, we must consider, are you gifting–
honor indeed or unacknowledged shame?
Isn’t it truly better to be missing
from a site where two male cadets are kissing?
